8 ounces elbow macaroni
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F . In a medium pot of salted boiling water, cook elbow macaroni until just shy of al dente, about 2 minutes less than cooking time indicated on package. Drain, then transfer pasta to a large mixing bowl and toss with 2 tablespoons butter until butter is melted and pasta is evenly coated. Set aside.
