style: splurge or steal?

So, I was all set to do this tutorial on nude lips today, but everywhere not indoors in NYC is covered in about a foot of snow right now, and I just couldn't get a good set of pictures.

And it was excellent timing, because I found myself online-window-shopping (do you guys do this?) and stumbled across the 'splurge' version of the shoe above. And I thought to myself, 'doesn't that look like...'

Cut to fifteen minutes later, where I had discovered that YES, in fact, these two shoes look remarkably alike. Also, in that time, I'd ordered three pairs of the 'steal' version, so if there are no size 7's left, that's probably my fault.

One of these retails for $49, the other is $750. Yes, I'm serious. The even crazier thing is that I'm pretty sure the 'steal' version came first! The 'splurge' is for a Spring 2011 collection, and the 'steal' version has been out for at least a year. I know there's a lag between runways and collections, but the 'steal' was out before September Fashion Week -- can it be that the 'steal' design is the original?
